Kegnæs – a small unique island, worth a visit

The sun shines more on Kegnæs. Due to its location, there are simply more hours of sunshine than in most other places in the country. This means that there is a foundation for growing wine. Visit the island and see the beautiful vineyards, all contributing to the production of excellent wine.

You get the grand overview from the Kegnæs Lighthouse. From here, you can enjoy the view of Broagerland, Germany, and the South Funen islands, Ærø and Langeland. The lighthouse has been restored and set up as a small museum with stories about the lighthouse’s history. When it is not foggy or too stormy, you can go up the lighthouse during its opening hours and enjoy the 360° view – completely free of charge!

– consists of 3 routes of 6, 7, and 10 km, which you can combine into one tour as you wish. On the beautiful peninsula, you will encounter incredibly stunning nature and a rich birdlife. Start your hike from the parking lot just after the causeway. Here, you will also find the remains of the defensive tower Kegborg.

Start the tour at the parking lot just across the isthmus. The road rises slightly in the first kilometer, then you turn left onto Bredsten, and it becomes completely flat. The rest of the route is pure idyll. Ride along small winding roads and circle most of the island. Along the way, you will pass through vineyards, by galleries, small specialty shops, and grocery stores. Enjoy a pleasant bike ride in peaceful and quiet surroundings, where most of the traffic is powered by “rugbrødsmotor” (a Danish expression for walking or cycling).

If you are interested in history, Kegnæs Church is definitely worth a visit. The church’s history dates back to the 17th century. It was built in connection with the establishment of the current settlement on Kegnæs. The church is open for visits every day of the week between 8 AM and 4 PM.
